ANGELINE SCHOOL

Serving children with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities ages Birth through 21 years.

The Wyandot county Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD) is extremely proud of its service to children through the Angeline School. Angeline school has been providing quality educational and support services to Wyandot County students since its founding in 1959.

Angeline School continues to offer a broad range of services to children with disabilities and their families.

Early Intervention
A program serving children birth to 3 years of age who are experiencing developmental delays. These delays may be in areas such as language, cognitive ability, social skills, self-help and gross or fine motor development.

The focus of this program is that the earlier a child with developmental delays begins receiving intervention services, the better.

Early Intervention serves children both at Angeline as well as in the families' homes. Services are directed by parents through the development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Preschool
Angeline operates two full day integrated preschool classes of 10 children each ages 3 through 5 years old. This program is integrated, meaning for each group of 10 students, 8 experience some type of developmental delay or disability and 2 are without a disability. These students are sometimes referred to as "typical peers" and assist in the development of children with disabilities by serving as role models in areas such as language and social skills. This program also includes swimming lessons provided by certified instructors.

School Age Special Education
For students ages 6 through 21 years, Angeline offers one school-age classroom serving up to 8 children who have been identified by their local school district as having multiple disabilities. Angeline's educational staff work closely with local districts to provide the necessary specialized services and instruction that each student requires.

Speech/Language Development
Angeline School offers the services provided by a professionally licensed Speech/Language Developmental Specialist. The name of this service really does say it all. The purpose of this extremely important therapy service to Angeline students is the development of skills necessary for children with special needs to obtain the speech, language and communication that they will need throughout their entire lives.

Adaptive Physical Education
Our school employs one full-time certified adaptive physical education instructor. The focus is on the full body health, physical development, and coordination of all Angeline attendees from early childhood to adults.

Occupational and Physical Therapy
These extremely valuable therapies are available to all students attending Angeline who have been assessed and determined to be in need. A small child is expected to reach for toys, sit independently, and eventually drink from a cup. As a child grows older, the need exists to learn to walk, hold a crayon and to assist with dressing/ undressing. Then ultimately a child begins to tackle handwriting, practice cutting with scissors and to master much more physically demanding daily activities. Whatever the case may be, occupational and physical therapy is available to assist children with special needs to become as independent with these much needed skills as possible.

Other Angeline Services to Children and Their Families

Service & Support Management (Formerly Case Management)
Children and adults with developmental disabilities are eligible to receive the following services provided by the Wyandot County Board of MR/DD Service and Support Management staff:

Family Support Services (formerly Family Resources)
This program provided through a grant from the Ohio Department of MR/DD provides supports and services to assist families who are caring for a family member with a disability at home. This is such a valuable program for families who prefer having their loved one close to them at home rather than in a much less personal and far more costly institutional setting such as a nursing home or state-operated facility. Family Support Services can provide funds for items such as:

Transportation Services
Transportation, primarily using state-certified school buses and school bus drivers is provided to students and adults who are enrolled at Angeline School & Industries. The one exception to this transportation is for infants. A child must be able to independently hold his/her head upright for safe transport in a school bus.
